Mckinlay Family

James Mckinlay was a coal miner in Lanarkshire Scotland, married three times and had a total of 14 children. This is the story of his descendants.

James Mckinlay born 1817 of Holytown occupation coal miner married his first wife Mary McNeil and they had 3 children. William born Newmains Lanarkshire about 1840, Margaret also born Newmains in 1844 & a child who died prior to 1855. His second wife also name Mary had 2 children, no other details known.

Mary McConnell born 1829 of Perth was his third wife and they had 9 children. Mary born 1855, Edward, Robert, Elizabeth, David, Marion, John and twins Janet and Thomas.
In 1868 James was employed at Bog Colliery Larkhall Lanarkshire.

August 1874 Mary & 6 of the 9 children boarded the ship 'Soukar' in London and sailed for Wellington New Zealand.

Seems husband James and sons Thomas, John & daughter Marion didn't travel with them.
